Students and staff of Delta State University Faculty of Nursing were this afternoon thrown into panic as an unchecked bush fire threatened to overrun the complex.
According to unverifiable sources, the bizarre fire started at approximately 2:30pm and was part of an attempt to clear off vegetation behind the faculty. However the fire got out of hand and began slowly to approach the left wing of the faculty which left students and staff scampering for safety fearing another inferno, as was experienced just this morning, was about to occur.
The school’s fire service was immediately called upon and acted promptly in dousing the raging flames thus, preventing any damage to the faculty and allaying the fears of the inhabitants.
This development comes hours after the PG hostel of the university was gutted by an inferno early today, that took the combines efforts of the school’s fire service, occupants and well meaning individuals to eventually douse. Although no casualties or injuries were reported, a lot of the Hostel’s occupants lost their personal effect to the inferno.
The Vice Chancellor of the school, Professor Andy Egwunyenga Who visited the scene of the last incident consoled with students who lost some of their property while assuring the institution would immediately look into the matter to determine the cause and how best prevent a reoccurrence.
